The Travelling Dog Bore
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
I don’t really like girly names and Shark is a tomboy. Since she was a puppy, she has been doing that strange thing when she plays. She shows her teeth and slams her jaws while moving towards the player, either another dog or me. Like a real shark would do, right? Now, her name sounds to me like a fusion of the words shine and bark: she shines like a princess but she barks like a wolf.
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
I never had a dog before and didn’t plan to have one, especially while travelling. Life put Shark on my way and I just couldn’t help feeling an unconditional love for her. As I work in a different country every year, I have had to reorganize some stuff to be able to travel with a big dog around the world. That’s why I created my blog. Now that I’m becoming a “with-pet travel expert”, I share my tips and try to inspire other people to take their dog along on vacation. Shark teaches me every day that nothing is impossible and that a dog is definitely an excellent life and travel companion!
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Cuddly, funny and adventurous.
Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
Shark is super friendly with my friends and family. I’d say that, besides me, her favorite person is my best friend’s husband. When they visit us, she always welcomes him with so much excitement! Then she seats just next to him on the sofa and cries when he leaves. I think she is a secretly in love with him.
What’s your dog’s superpower?
Shark could have been a drug-sniffling dog even though I haven’t trained her for that. She barks at people smoking weed or people who just had cocaine. It’s quite impressive. Once, in Colombia, we were with some guys in a party and she was friendly with them. A while later, when then came back after doing some dirty business, she started barking at them like crazy. Good thing I never consume drugs!
If your dog had a job, what would it be?
Professional hunter. She chases everything: flies, cockroaches, lizards, mice, birds… She did actually got a couple of chickens too. Shark just seems so happy when she chases! And she loves when we team up to chase some insect in the apartment.
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
Shark often pees like a male… Especially when she saws a male peeing in front of her. She runs to pee at the exact same place, lifting her leg. Weird, right?
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
At the closest beach! Shark and I are true sea lovers. We love swimming, rolling around in the sand and chasing seagulls (well, she chases and I just run after her). This year, we live in Cartagena, Colombia, a beautiful city on the Caribbean coast, so we go to the beach every day.
Finish this sentence "a dog walks into a bar….”
… and pees on the front door to show everyone who owns the place (Shark is quite territorial).
