The Interior Designer Dog Bore
Dog Bore: Rebecca Cox
Job: Co-founder of Lily Spindle, interior designer/stylist, art slinger, rescue dog fanatic
Dogs: Fred, Lucie, Greta, and Donut
Lucie is a 60-lb shepherd mix; Greta, Fred, and Donut are all 16-lb terrier mixes
How did you meet your canine companion?
With the exception of Lucie, whom I met and instantly adored while eating lunch with my brother and his wife while in Culver City (Lucie was being walked by a rescue volunteer and was being boarded by the rescue nearby), all the dogs have come to me by way of friends who are shelter volunteers or rescue founders, knowing I can't say no to a darling pup mug in need.
What's the story behind your dog's name?
In terms of Lucie, her rescue name was Sesame, so we wanted to pick something relatively comparable. Also, I clearly love human names for animals - Greta and Fred, for instance. Donut was named by one of the shelter volunteers when he was a wee pup and it totally suited him, so it stuck!
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
It is decidedly hairier, funnier, busier, and it's plugged me into a community of awesome rescue people and animal advocates here in Los Angeles and elsewhere.
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Lucie: steady, patient, loving
Fred: particular, nerdy, ridiculous
Donut: sweet, docile, adorable
Greta: crazy, happy, manic
Who's your dog's favourite person?
Good god, I hope it's me! But I think it switches moment-to-moment between me and my husband.
What’s your dog’s superpower?
Lucie: Eternal patience
Fred: A fantastically bow-legged waddle when he runs - that's a kind of superpower, right?
Greta: Spreading unbridled joy
If your dogs had a job, what would it be?
Lucie: Attorney General
Greta: Life coach
Donut: Registered nurse
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
Only one of them has a bad habit, and that would be Fred's homicidal predilection for slaughtering baby possum in the yard.
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
I often bring Fred and Donut shopping with me when I'm doing Lily Spindle work, so art galleries, furniture showrooms, flea markets, and vintage shops all over Los Angeles.
Finish this sentence "a dog walks into a bar….”
…and everyone gives him cuddles and love and he gets his own chair, goddammit, 'cos that's how it ought to be.
