Dog: Declan
He's an Anatolian Shepherd / German Shepherd - Terrier Mix
Adopted from Humane Society, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

How did you meet your canine companion?
We has just moved to the Cayman Islands the week before & were on Seven Mile beach in Grand Cayman. Every Sunday they bring down some of the Humane Society dogs for beach training, in the hope that tourists will see them & want to adopt.
We'd previously seen him in the shelter & spotted him on the beach. He was very timid & wasn't a big fan of being stroked but it was pretty much love at first sight, 3 days later we'd adopted him.

What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
When he became part of our family we felt he should have a new name, than his adopted name of Saint. After many failed ideas ourselves, we started asking friends & a dear Irish friend came up with Declan. She's now officially his 'dog mother'.

How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
One word, fur! Everything is covered in Declan fur, he seems to moult continuously & yet stay super furry all year round.

Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Protective, nosey, grumpy.

Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
He has 2 equal favourite people; the first is Manu who lives in the Cayman Islands & introduced him to his first dog friend Haku. The second is Sheila, his best paw-pal Scooter's dog Mum

What’s your dog’s superpower?
The ability to stop criminals by constantly getting under their feet & in their way.

If you dog had a job, what would it be?
Private Detective, due to his nosey nature.

What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
Declan has a wonderful ability to belch in your face, usually after he's eaten something fishy, we like to believe its his way of thank you {we're deluded}.

Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
Now he's been introduced to English pub life, he usually tries to drag us into our local at any time of the day. He's a big fan of peanuts and Guinness foam. So when he's not found in a pub, he adores racing around any sandy beach. His paws haven't yet gotten used to the Brighton stones. he's been spoilt by the Caribbean.

Finish this sentence “dog walks into a bar….”
"...and buys his own packet of peanuts for once!"
