The Science Dog Bore
Dog Bore: Amanda Szentesy & Nick Lyman (my husband, Wills dad 😁)
She is a bully mix. Not really sure. Vet says lab mix, shelter says Pitbull mix. Really she is half wonderful and half amazing.
We adopted her from Lakeshore Paws here in Valparaiso, IN
How did you meet your canine companion?
We had recently lost our greyhound to cancer and were in need of some puppy cuddles so we went to an adoption event our friend had set up. It was one of those, our eyes met from across the room or parking lot if you will. We had no intention to adopt that soon after losing Buffy. Let alone adopting a puppy but she felt right. So in short, an adoption event at Starbucks
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
My husband and I are HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. Our greyhound we named Buffy and we do love a good theme. She was going to be Willow or Anya. Willow is what seemed right. She is black and white or dark and light just like Willow from the show.
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
Our life has only changed for the better. Have a dog filled a void that we didn't know existed. We get out and about more and try to include her in every activity that we possibly can.
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Sassy, Bullhead, Love
Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
I would have to say me, though I know my husband wishes it was him.
What’s your dog’s superpower?
She can find a sock, anywhere in the house. ANYWHERE. Her newest superpower is counter surfing so this has added an extra sense of adventure to the household.
If your dog had a job, what would it be?
Well, she is a chatter. Constantly telling us the what for. So a job that requires you to be a gregarious people person that loves to chat. Maybe a talk show host.
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
She had two. Her talking in public. She is the loud, embarrassing kid. She also is VERY exuberant when meeting people, we are working on her manners still but sometimes she jumps and will lick people right in the mouth. She is an open mouth kisser.
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
We really try to be ladies and gents about town. We go to the hardware store, local pet supply shops, walk around downtown, walking in our neighbourhood, etc. Really anywhere she might get to say hi to people and people that will say hi to her. Her appearance holds a stigma and some people are afraid of her because of what she looks like.
