How did you meet your canine companion?
I have been dog obsessed since infancy and had hundreds of fluffy toy companions. When I wasn't at a track meet I would borrow a friend's dog and take them out for some agility training. My parents eventually caved and we got a fluffy family dog called Alfie. Several years ago, I felt ready for my own dog. I had wanted a poodle mix for years, I applied to so many rescues and fell in love with the little sad square photos on pet finder, hoping my application would get a call. After a year of disappointment I wasn't sure of my options. I didn't have a family with 2.4 children and I wasn't a US citizen, but I knew I could supply a forever, loving home to a dog of any age. I didn't think I would ever get a puppy, but a friend recently got a doodle called Dakota and I grew very attached. I decided to get Dakota's sister from the next litter the following year. Clover was a tiny, silky soft little cotton ball that melted in my arms, I fell in love instantly. It's been the adventures of Charlotte and Clover ever since.
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
I'm an athlete and I kept getting injured. I was looking for some permanent good luck so thought getting myself a lucky little clover could do the trick.
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
Gosh, Where do I start? She's the best thing that's happened to me, she's made me a better person, supported me with her happily little face after a rough day on the track, kept me accountable, made me laugh every single day and allowed me to live for something a lot bigger than just myself. My patience has also been greatly improved. Almost every decision I make involves Clover and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Goofy, sweet with a little sass.
Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
Anyone who's holding a 'chuckIt' ball thrower. If no 'ChuckIts' are around then I get all of the attention.
What’s your dog’s superpower?
She turns invisible. She has the ability to turn into a fluffy rug in any dangerous situation.
If your dog had a job, what would it be?
It would probably be a children's party entertainer. She really brings the enthusiasm.
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
She likes to give dog hugs, we call it 'going in her cubby' if she thinks someone's about to leave the house, she puts her head between their legs and just keeps it there, usually averaging about a minute. It's a lot more awkward for guys.
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
Labrador Brewing Co. In Portland, OR. A craft brewery full of dogs. Nothing beats it.
