How did you meet your canine companion?
My husband and I met Luna when we picked her up to bring her home. She was a ferry ride, and a few hour drive away. As soon as she was with us, we knew it was a perfect match. She was a little scared at first, but quickly warmed up to her new family.
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
Since a young age I have always loves Killer Whales. We had watched a documentary a few months earlier about a killer whale who lived further north up island. The whale was named Luna. When it came time to choose a name for our new pup I wanted something to do with nature. I thought about names of trees, but none of them felt right. Then I remembered my love of whales and the connection I felt to Luna. As soon as I thought it, I knew it was the perfect name!
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
Our lives have been so enriched since we brought Luna home. It was something I never knew could happen. We were active before Luna, but have become even more active! We spend much more time outside hiking, swimming, and being together. Having out fur companion is so rewarding, the loyalty and friendship is incredible! We still go camping, surfing, and go on road trips, we just always have a little fur friend along for the ride!
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Playful, loyal, loving
Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
We are VERY lucky that Luna didn't attach herself to one of us, as Heelers are known to do. She loves my husband and I equally! She will play and wrestle more with my hubby, and snuggle more with me.
What’s your dog’s superpower?
Luna has amazing hearing! Her big ears are perfectly tuned for hearing things that we wouldn't catch. Her ears are also very expressive, she moves them in many different ways depending how she is feeling.
If your dog had a job, what would it be?
My father always says that Luna would make an exceptional goalie, since her reflexes are so quick, and it is almost impossible to get a ball past her! I definitely agree, she would make a great goalie!
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
Luna is a very big behind sniffer, of dogs and people! She isn't usually interested in the dog, just has to get a good sniff and moves along.
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
You can find us at the beach, or hiking on trails on Vancouver Island, in Canada.
