The Veterinarian Dog Bore

The Veterinarian Dog Bore

Dog Bore: Danielle Boyd
Job: Veterinarian Dog: Squish
Dog: Squish
He's a mutt,
adopted from Cleveland Ohio

How did you meet your canine companion?
Squish was abused as a young puppy and left as a stray. He was found and kindly cared for by an amazing shelter in Ohio. After examining him the shelter veterinarian brought him to a speciality hospital to get a second opinion from all the specialists as to the extent of the injuries he sustained to his skull and jaw. I was working as a veterinarian at that very hospital and was asked to examine his eye. I took one look at that big, brown eye and fell head over heels for that brindle ball of pup. The rest is history.

What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
I kept thinking this pup that endured such hardship needs a strong, manly name.. and then I named him Squish. It started as a pet name when we were treating him at the hospital and it stuck. His name reflects his face, but even more it reflects how much of a cuddle bug this boy is. He melts in my arms and is the best little spoon there ever was.

How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
There is something about the true appreciation and love from a rescue pup that is unlike any other. I have always had rescue pups but Squish is the first one to be considered special-needs since adoption. With his incredibly contagious zest for life Squish has inspired me in ways I never imagined. He never fails to make me smile and every single day I am a happier, better person because of him. With Squish by my side I am able to pursue my passion of helping more animals. Squish is already inspiring people to rescue and consider adopting a special-needs pet. He is helping others to see that his imperfections make him perfect and that his perceived differences are beautiful.

Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
Resilient, enthusiastic, squishy

Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
I like to think it is his Mama, but I'm sure it is the person with the best treats.

What’s your dog’s superpower?
Squish's superpower is making people happy. I don't think I have been able to pass by a single person without seeing them smile or stop to pet him. He is magnetic and even grown men will be on the ground cooing over him and getting snuggles. I know first hand that my toughest days seem to melt away when I look see his face or get a Squishy hug.

If your dog had a job, what would it be?
Squish would most definitely be paediatrician working with children with disabilities. He adores children! As a side job Squish would probably work at Starbucks so he could eat puppuccinos all day.

What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
Because his jaw is crooked he can make quite the mess when eating and drinking. This means he can harbor food in his cheek and when he kisses someone he will leave behind a masticated lump of food.

Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
We love to get outdoors as often as possible and explore a new trail. Squish lives for the next adventure. Aside from hiking we are big homebodies. There you can find Squish cuddled up as close as physically possible wherever I am sitting.
