The Restaurant Dog Bore
Dog Bore: Sarah
Job: Boyd doesn’t have a job, haha! I am a server/bartender/private events at a casual fine dining restaurant downtown Indianapolis. I love my job, it also gives me the time and flexibility to foster, the FUN job!
The pit bull mix/mutt- name was given to him at the shelter and it couldn’t be more perfect. From Humane Society of Indianapolis
How did you meet your canine companion?
I always wanted a big dog, I would usually proclaim wanting a specific breed. I never knew what I actually needed was an adopted pit bull, with a big block head and magnificent, drooling jowls. I saw Boyd's profile on The Humane Society of Indianapolis website and fell in love in an instant. I must admit feeling wary as I read his bio, saying he was a pit bull. I knew in my heart of hearts that feeling was wrong, as there are no bad dogs in this world, only bad owners.
When I got to the shelter to meet him, it was like many shelters. Every cage full, every dog barking and uneasy hoping that this time, they will be chosen to go home with their forever family. Then there he was. Quiet, skinny, and trembling. We made eye contact as I knelt down, and I told him I loved him. The rest is history! Not much is known about Boyd's background. Just that he was let down and surrendered by his human because he and his sister were,"getting too big." Their loss. What I do know, is now he is safe and loved beyond measure.
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
Boyd was the name given to him at the shelter, after many other considerations, we thought,”you know what? Boyd is a Boyd!” Also the inspiration behind our IG handle: @hesjustaboyd
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
I didn’t know much of anything about the world of adoption and rescue until we adopted Boyd. Boyd has quite literally shown me the path towards my purpose and passion, and that is a positive pit bull and adoption/rescue advocate! We spend a lot of our time fostering bottle feed kittens until they find loving forever homes.
Boyd is my best friend, we do everything together. My favorite moments are those like right now. When we can be side by side, tell our story, and advocate for rescue, adoption, and positive pibble awareness. Every dog deserves to find their Ohana. No dog deserves to be discriminated against based solely on looks. As a team, we do what we can to change any negativity associated with his type of breed, you know, the ones with big heads and even bigger hearts. Boyd has changed the course of my life and guided me to find my purpose.
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
