The Mental Health Counselor Dog Bore
Dog Bore: Sharife
Job: Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I’m a psychotherapist/owner of a mental health private practice, Koi Counseling has been serving the Central Florida community for 5 years this month. Anubis is my loyal sidekick therapy dog.
A 4-year-old Greyhound (with the emotional maturity of a toddler). He turns 5 August 11. He was born in South Florida and lives in Central Florida with me after being adopted.
How did you meet your canine companion?
Anubis was part of an "oops" litter from a local greyhound adoption group. The puppies were in need of homes. I brought him home at 6 weeks old, and the rest is history.
What’s the story behind your dog’s name?
Anubis is the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife. His role in history was to protect and guide the deceased as they transitioned from life to death. Depicted as a jackal and canine in ancient hieroglyphics, me being a psychotherapist with a speciality in grief/loss, and hoping that my new little guy would be a great therapy dog, naming my little guy Anubis was an obvious choice.
How has your life changed since you have had your dog?
In addition to opportunities being presented in my life both personal and professional, Anubis has shown me the kindness of the world, the hope of humanity, and brought me unspeakable joy. Words literally cannot sufficiently describe how he has changed me and enhanced my life.
Which 3 words best describe your dog’s personality?
All the things
Who’s your dog’s favourite person?
Me (his "mudder") of course :)
What’s your dog’s superpower?
The ability to turn a frown upside down. He's hilarious and endlessly entertaining.
If your dog had a job, what would it be?
He does have a job, he's a therapy dog. :) (or traveling entertainer stand up comic inspirational space noob)
What’s your dog’s most unappealing / most embarrassing habit?
When he gets excited to see other people and their dog's, he throws himself in excitement towards them and takes me along for the ride while attached to the leash.
Where can we find you hanging out with your dog?
Everywhere he's allowed to come along. At the park, in the office, at home, at grandma and grandpa's house, on a road trip...
